GCM Hall of Fame Variety Show
Sep. 18, 2015 - This month we feature a "Variety" of singers and musicians. Our Gatesville Country Music Hall of Fame house band, "The Country Sounds Band", will perform and accompany our guest performers. Traveling minstrels, Mike and Dixie Dunton live in Hico, TX. They have performed country, gospel, and old-time-rock and roll music from Florida to California. Mike began his music life in St. Augustine, FL. When growing up, many evenings were devoted to playing music with friends and family on the front porch. Seeing his talent for the piano, his parents obtained classical training for him, but then, he discovered rock and roll. Goodbye Beethoven, rock-a-billy was for him! Dixie started singing at the age of two for anyone who would listen. Later she performed with the USO in Europe and many other venues in Texas and California. Falling in love with a piano player, the rest is history. Rick Titus, raised in Houston, TX, was strongly influenced by his Dad at the young age of four. In the late 1950's, his Dad took him anywhere there was a band playing country music. Rick settled down in Central Texas for a second time in 1994 and says he isn't leaving again. Rick has been singing at Country Opry's all over Texas, and to name a few, Seguin, Salado, Cameron, Temple, and Copperas Cove. Rick believes there is nothing like an old Hank Williams or Johnny Horton song to remind him of when life was a bit slower paced and Country was Country! J. J. Nunes says, music by choice and firefighting by occupation have been my passions ever since I can remember. They rank 3rd & 4th behind God and Family. My songs should speak for themselves if I composed them correctly. I live in Georgetown, TX and work in Waco. I play music wherever I go and whenever I can. I hope you enjoy. D.C. Cloninger played fiddle and sang with the Gene Snow band last month at our Gatesville Country Music Hall of Fame show. We are happy to have him return this month and play with the house band.
