Sep. 19, 2014 Garrett Ratliff is a bluegrass guitarist and singer from Cherokee, Texas. He first started out on guitar when he was 10 years old. His father, Joel Ratliff, sat down with him and taught him the basic chords. From there, he started learning about scales and playing by ear. By the time he was 13, he played regularly at his church with his father. He started developing his voice at 12, and now, has earned him a scholarship at Howard Payne University where he will be studying music at a higher level. He started competing in music in the Texas 4-H ?Share the Fun? music category and went on to state where he won 8th place. Last year, he placed among the top 5 flat-pickers in the Bay Area Bluegrass Association's state flat-picking competition. Garrett hopes to continue his music as a full time career. He is thankful to God everyday for giving him the gift of music.
