Mara (pronounced Myra) Hoyler
October 18, 2013 Mara Hoyler (pronounced Myra) was born and raised in Ft. Worth, TX, but for the last 38 years, lived in Burleson, TX. She and her husband Tommy raised two very talented, smart sons, and both of them are married to wonderful women. As often as possible, Mara enjoys the company of her four beautiful grand-daughters (all sisters). Mara, singing since childhood, dreamed of making it "big" on Broadway, ?but things change once you've grown up.? In high school, Mara met, fell in love, and married her high school sweetheart, Tommy. This past summer, they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. She sang in church choirs, as a child and adult, and was part of several quartets and select singing ensembles. She will tell you, "My singing career didn't take shape until our sons were almost grown." Her sons, now grown, Mara was able to perform on several cruise lines, play in community theaters, and enter many singer/songwriter competitions. She won several vocal contests, and received a call back for a second America's Got Talent audition several years ago. Now, she enjoys the gigs she books each month. Mara and her husband started playing the guitar nine years ago. She said, "If he can learn to play, then I can too!" After taking up the guitar, she wrote numerous songs and won awards for her lyrics. She is most proud of the songs she wrote for her four grandchildren. Besides singing, Mara and her husband teach swing dance lessons, salsa, and waltz. Mara works at an elementary school where she directed children's choir for many years, and for a fourth year, is the drama club director. "Being able to sing, act, and dance for an audience is a gift God graced me with. I try to do my best each time I perform to make Him proud."
