August 19, 2016, Buddy Ferguson, a talented lead guitarist, moved to Mahomet, TX in 1982. His professional career began in Houston with the "Texas Stars" band. He played "Rock-A-Billy" in the early 1960s, and later, returned to country and western swing music. A highlight of his early career was playing behind such stars as Loretta Lynn, Charlie Pride, the Wilburn Brothers, and Carl and Pearl Butler. Next, was a fun 3 years playing with Cajun music great, Frenchie Burke. After this, Buddy played a few months with good friends, Jackie Ward and soon to be recording star Gene Watson. Other bands he played with are:
1. In 1982 for 3 years with the "Express Band" out of Marble Falls,
2. In 1986 he joined the late Leon Pappy Selph's "Blue Ridge Playboys" in Houston for over 8 years. The band traveled to Mobile, Alabama, Washington D.C. and Kuwait in the Middle East.
Some of Buddy's awards are:
1. August 2004, he was inducted into "The Western Swing Music Society of Seattle Hall of Fame".
2. October 2007, he was inducted into "The Sacramento, California Western Swing Society Hall of Fame".
3. January 2008, he was inducted into "The Gatesville, Texas Country Music Hall of Fame".
4. May 2008, he was inducted into The "Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame" in San Marcos, TX.
5. July 2008, he was inducted into the "Western Swing Music Society of the Southwest Hall of Fame" in Yukon, Oklahoma.
6. May 2012, he was inducted into the "Cowtown Society of Western Music: as a "Hero of Western Swing" in Mineral Wells, TX
7. May 2016, he received the "Living Legend Award" from the Cowtown Society of Western Music in Mineral Wells, TX.
Buddy currently performs at concerts, festivals. Opry's, reunions, birthday parties, weddings, anniversaries and with a number of groups in Austin and surrounding areas. Buddy's band includes Roy Gollahon and Lionel Menchaca.
Roy Gollahon - In his early years, supporting a family came first and playing in a band, second. In later years after moving to Georgetown, TX, Roy met Buddy. Through this friendship they have played together for a several years.
Lionel Menchaca Currently lives in Georgetown, TX. Learning to play the guitar at age 11, and later, the four string electric bass guitar, he played professionally, in numerous bands over the years. He began playing music with Buddy for several years.
